I am looking for information regarding the Queens Head public house in Woodbridge, on the corner of Queens Head Lane and Seckford Street. My father and mother used to run this pub in the 1950's? My father Alf, died just before I was born in 1960. After this my mother, uncle and grand father moved into a house in Haugh Lane, Woodbridge. I have an old ledger from the pub which lists takings/outgoings and I assume the value of the stock etc when it was either closed or another landlord took over.
I know it is a private dwelling now, but always had an urge to contact the owner to ask for any information and a look round, but never had to nerve to do so.
Any information, photos would be great.
Many thanks.
Steve

Does anyone have information on current owners of Turn Lane Cottage in Woodbridge near Church Street? We lived there for three years and I still dream about that lovely cottage.
Also, there was a tea shop on Church Street near Market Hill that had a mareschino cherry cake that I still think about. Does anyone remember the shop or is is still there?
Thanks so much!

I lost my diamond engagement ring last week. It has got three stones set separately. Not sure what day. Probably dropped out of my handbag where I often put it when off due to swelling fingers. Pop into shops at the thoroughfare all the time. Might have dropped it somewhere in town. Please help.

My husband's great-great-grandfather was James "Brighton" Mallet, according to my mother-in-law. He supposedly lived in 'Brighton Hall', born 1820, but census records have him born in Woodbridge, Suffolk. He left home to work in Northumberland and apparently refused his inheritance. I can't find Brighton Hall anywhere and would really like to be able to prove or disprove the theory that he went from riches to rags..
His marriage certificate from 1843 has his father's name as James, Profession "Butcher".
Thanks for any light you can shine on this. My mother-in-law was not born when he died so it was, of course, hearsay.

Carol

I have been trying to locate some local friends in Leiston England for along time. I finally came across this site and saw Bentwaters and Woodbridge. My Dad was stationed at Bentwaters between 1968-1971. We lived near leiston.i'm having a heck of a hard time locating exactly where the farm was that we lived at for almost four years. I lived there between the ages of 10-13.5. The road I took to my bus stop is unknown to me but our farm house had a long dirt road, we would then hit onto a paved road and walk to a fork in the road and at this fork, you could go to Leiston. This fork in the road is where our bus would take us to Bentwaters to attend school. I know, a little info. but it's all I have and would love to know if someone out there knows where this is. I'm sure someone from Leiston would surely know. It was a very special place in my life.
I'm also tring to contact Jasmine Wright.Steve Wright. They lived in Leiston, also "bugs and red". I'm now 50 and have some time to gather info.
I hope to return for a visit. Any info will help.
Thank You so much!

Nice to hear that there are a few more Woodbridge's around, but you must admit we are an (exclusive) minority, probably the envy of a lot of people, I tried hunting down a few more in the Philippines but to no avail, seems we really are in an exclusive club.

Just wondered if know anyone interested in the loss of the Zeppelin L48, one of Suffolks most important aviation incidents. There is a new forthcoming "Zeppelin War" book published by Tempus edited by Neil Faulkner and Nadia Durrani, I thought you may be interested in. (News and press release).
As you might know I organised the excavation of the Zeppelin L48 in Theberton, Suffolk from its beginnings and it was later featured as part of a BBC Timewatch programme. The actual publication date is as yet undecided but it is loosely scheduled for end of Jan / Feb 2008. I have had a look at a PDF file of the contents and its superbly laid out with extensive sections of L48 crash photographs taken in 1917 and also the excavation that took place in June 2006. This section includes actual fragments of L48 that were discovered in 2006 as well as the amazing German Imperial Naval Officers button that was found by a metal-detectorist during the dig.
Other contents are defences, excavations of gun emplacements, and a whole host of fascinating associated topics, this research involves some of the the very first archaeological excavations of British defences in World War one and of course the World`s first ever archaeological excavation of one of the five Zeppelins to crash on British soil, ground breaking stuff resulting in a unique ground-breaking publication. We are fast approaching the centenary of the begginnings of World War One which should make this all the more poignant and thought evoking read.
Kind regards Julian.
