Blue plaques for Woodbridge "notables"

Tell a friend

The Woodbridge Society has arranged for a number of commemorative blue plaques, similar to those London and elsewere around the country, to be affixed to houses in Woodbridge that been the birth place or residence of "notable" people.

The first eight Woodbridgians to be honoured in this way are Thomas Seckford,  Edward FitzGerald,  Thomas Churchyard, John Clarkson, Dr. Norman Heatley, Bernard Barton, Isaac Johnson and Sir Ian Jacob.

The plaques are now in place on the houses, most of which are near the town centre:

Abbey School Gateway, Church Street - Thomas Seckford
Little Grange, Pyches Road - Edward FitzGerald
Marston House, 5 Cumberland Street - Thomas Churchyard
Barclays Bank, 4 Church Street - John Clarkson
Orchard House, 99 Thoroughfare - Dr. Norman Heatley
Barton Cottage, 23 Cumberland Street - Bernard Barton
7 Market Hill - Isaac Johnson
The Red House, 44 Cumberland Street - Sir Ian Jacob

The Society also intends to produce a guide for visitors, giving brief biographical details of each notable, with a map showing where each plaque can be found.
