I try to visit when I come to Ipswich to see family, and I love it. Hope it never changes, the best place in Suffolk.

William gross had children William 1780 Charles 1781 George 1782 Harry 1786 and others all chr. at St. Marys Woodbridge.
We plan to come for a few days to research the father whom we know nothing about. We have been coming to Minsmere for some time for the birds.

Message: My father (Wilfred Douglas White) was born and raised in Woodbridge, in a little cottage down Angel Lane. In fact, his brother John still lives there. My father was in the RAF and eventually was stationed in the Orkney Islands (north Scotland) where he met my mother. They were married in Lowestoft, England on 31 December, 1955. I have been to Woodbridge a few times, the last was in 1989 and would love to go back someday to show my children some of their ancestry. Does anyone have any info on genealogy of the Woodbridge/Suffolk area?

Message: I'm a member of the Woodbridge, New Jersey (USA) Historical Association and visited your lovely town several years ago with friends from Essex. I've been interested in any connection there may be between our communities. I've established a link with Woodbridge, Connecticut - our first printer was their first printer and an associate of Benjamin Franklin. Their community was named for Reverend Woodbridge, pastor of a church in their community, but as he died in that office one can only speculate that our township is named for him. Any insight you may offer as to how to research emigres from your Woodbridge to either the community in Connecticut or New Jersey would be sincerely appreciated!

Message: I lived in Suffolk from 89-92 while my dad was stationed at Bentwaters. I've been looking through all the beautiful pictures, mostly its just like I remembered. It is great to find this web site. My oppinion is the same as all. I loved my time there. I did get to go back in 1987 as apart of my honeymoon, and hope to return again. I rented a house in Bawdsey, while stationed at B/W and paid my electric bill in Woodbridge, at the store that sold appliances. Message: I arrived in Suffolk in 1970-1974 my husband was station at RAF Bentwaters and lived near Hacheston, then Badingham. I fell in love with Suffolk and the quaint villages in the area.
We were lucky to return to Bentwaters in 1986-1989 and was thrilled to be back to spend time with our English friends. We sold all our furniture this time around, so I could could furnish my home with furniture from the 1930's-40's which I did and I still own today. I've been told by everyone that visits us "Your home is like 'A Bit of Old England'" which makes me so happy. I stumbled across the website that has all the photos of the towns and villages and was thrilled to see all the places that I loved to visit. My wish one day is to come back and visit our friends there and drive thru the countryside again. I do miss England. Cheers to all

It was one of the best experiences of my life and I plan to go back someday, maybe even to live again. This part of England just contrasts so much from America, but in a good way. Message: I attended the Woodbridge School in 1973. My family lived in Woodbridge and my father was working at RAF Orfordness on a joint Anglo-American project. The Woodbridge School was a classic English Grammar School for boys at that time, and was quite a shock for a young American from a public high school in the USA. I remember hearing of plans to convert Woodbridge School into a modern co-educational school while in attendance at the school, a prospect which was greeted without enthusiasm by most of my classmates.
While I was at Woodbridge for only a relatively short time, Woodbrige did have a positive impact on my development and I look back to those days with fond memories.

Message: I just finished reading all ten pages in the Noticeboard. I was stationed at Shepherds Grove from 54-57 in the 78th FBS. What jumped out at me while reading the entries was the general trend of feelings in all was the same as mine. That our tours in England were for the most part (there were a few encounters with some Teddy Boys in London I would rather forget, Ha.) an enjoyable time. Not only for the lasting friendships that were formed but because the English people treated us so kindly. What a great country and people. Was back to visit in 85 and 95 and hope to go again. What fond memories to be able to have. I'm thankful that I had the good fortune to be in England at the right time for me.

Message: I was stationed at Bentwaters/Woodbridge from 1983-1989. I worked for 4 years at the Bentwaters fire department and then two years at the base gym on Bentwaters. Lived on both bases during my stay and then moved to Hollesley during my last year.
Absolutely loved my six years in England and wish I could have stayed. (Job prospects were much better in the U.S.)
Traveled throughout Europe while there and enjoyed Scotland, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. Was also able to visit Greece and Morocco during this time.
I plan to take my wife and three children over to England one day and we will surely visit Woodbridge, Ipswich, Felixstowe, and Hollesley.
Anyone stationed there during this time frame who remembers me from either the Fire Department, Dorms, or Base Gym please e-mail me.

Message: I finally got time to open up some of my email. I was really impressed with the photographs of the towns. I was in England at Bentwaters Woodbridge from 1974-76. I really enjoyed my tour there. There are many times when I recall my stay and the many trips to different places I took with fondness.
Maybe someday I will go back to do that again. Anyway I will being looking at the photos and enjoying area again.

Message: I was one of the original USAF cadre who served along with the RAF in 1951 to prepare for the arrival of 81TFW. The RAF officers were wonderful to us. I lived at Melton Grange and had a close friendship with the owners, George and Kay Brown, both now deceased. My regular pubs were the Bull in Woodbridge and the White Hart in Saxmundham. I have nothing but warm memories of my time at Bentwaters and the beautiful people of Woodbridge and Saxmundham as well as my RAF comrades.

Message: Greetings, In the future, I plan on returning to the ole aerodromes-RAF Bentwaters & RAF Woodbridge with my wife and 3 daughters. From Feb 71 to Dec 74, the 81st Tactical Fighter Wing was my first USAF assignment and I have many fond memories of Suffolk and East Anglia in general.
